Empowering Trinity County's Tourism Future

Discover how the Trinity County Tourism Business Improvement District could transform the local tourism landscape, driving growth and prosperity for our community.

When Tourism Thrives, We All Thrive

The Trinity County Tourism Business Improvement District brings together short-term lodging businesses – hotels, vacation rentals, and other accommodations – to collectively invest in tourism marketing and infrastructure that benefits our entire community.

Beyond Lodging: The Real Economic Impact

Tourism dollars don’t stop at hotel check-in. Visitors who come to Trinity County also:

  • Fills up at local gas stations
  • Shops at grocery stores and retail outlets
  • Dines at restaurants and cafes
  • Uses services from mechanics to medical facilities
  • Purchases supplies and equipment from local vendors

When we strengthen tourism marketing and infrastructure, we’re directly supporting restaurants, retail stores, service providers, contractors, suppliers, and countless other businesses that may not consider themselves “tourism businesses” but absolutely benefit from visitor spending.

The Multiplier Effect in Action

Economic studies show that every dollar spent by tourists generates additional local spending as businesses purchase from other local businesses, employees spend their wages locally, and the economic activity continues to circulate throughout Trinity County.

Strengthening Our Tax Base, Supporting Our Community

Increased tourism activity generates vital revenue for county services through:

  • Hotel occupancy taxes (collected from guests)
  • Sales tax from visitor purchases
  • Property tax from improved business success

These tourism-generated taxes help fund essential community services like public safety, infrastructure maintenance, parks and recreation, and county programs, easing the tax burden on residents while improving services for everyone.

Our Vision for Tourism

What is a TBID?

A Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) is a stable source of funding for marketing and sales efforts designed to increase demand for visitation for lodging businesses.

A TBID’s mission is to promote and improve tourism in the designated boundaries.

Funds raised through a small assessment on lodging stays are used to provide services that directly benet the lodging businesses in the district and cannot be diverted for other government programs.

The formation process includes planning, outreach, development of a TBID Management District Plan, and the legislative approval process.

 Who Manages a TBID?

A new non-profit corporation can be formed to manage district funds, or an existing corporation can fill this role, which will be named as the Owners’ Association in the Management District Plan.

The businesses forming the TBID decide how the corporation will be structured and who will manage it.

An Assessment, NOT a Tax

A tax is generally used as a general fund revenue stream and can be used for purposes that do not specifically benefit the lodging business paying the tax.

The benefit of an assessment is that it MUST be used to benefit the lodging businesses paying the assessment within the district.
